Jatinder “Jay” Sidhu has announced he will run for West Vancouver council in the 2026 municipal election, according to a news release.
Sidhu, 55, ran the successful 2024 provincial election campaign of BC Green MLA Jeremy Valeriote, who represents West Vancouver Sea to Sky, and has worked since as Valeriote’s constituency office manager, the release says.
A former BBC journalist of more than 20 years, Sidhu moved from London to West Vancouver in 2018 with his wife, a family physician, and their three children. He has served as a board director with the West Vancouver Memorial Library and Enhance West Van, sat on the District’s Community Engagement Committee, and served on the school district’s parent advisory council executive, according to the release.
In 2021 he co-founded Positive Voices, a registered non-profit society that promotes progressive initiatives in West Vancouver. In 2022 he started Ambleside parkrun, a free weekly run and walk from the Ferry Building that the release says draws more than 150 people each Saturday.
Sidhu says he supports evidence-based policy and wants wider, more effective community consultation, pointing to New Westminster’s Community Advisory Assembly as a model West Vancouver could adopt.
