A driver was stopped on Cypress Bowl Road last night after West Vancouver Police clocked the vehicle travelling 160 km/h — 100 km/h over the posted limit, according to the news release by the police.
The stop occurred on the winding road at night, with wildlife reported in the area at the time. Police said driving at that speed severely limits a driver’s ability to react to road conditions, hazards, and other users, sharply increasing the risk of serious harm.
The driver faced a 7-day vehicle impound, a $483 violation ticket, and ICBC demerit points as a result of the stop.
According to the news release, speed limits are in place to protect all road users, including local wildlife, and West Vancouver Police enforcement on area roads continues.
