West Vancouver mayoral candidate Kirk LaPointe has released the first part of a three-phase campaign plan, focusing on municipal taxes, public trust and transparency at Municipal Hall.
LaPointe said the first phase includes five commitments aimed at resetting the District’s finances and giving residents a greater role in municipal decision-making.
Tax and spending commitments
Among the proposals is a pledge to reduce the District’s proposed 2027 property tax increase from nearly seven per cent to three per cent.
LaPointe is also proposing to limit future growth in municipal spending to no more than half the rate of inflation each year.
Consultation and transparency
His plan calls for the restoration of advisory committees and more public consultation before major decisions are made.
LaPointe also promised greater scrutiny of Municipal Hall through the publication of contracts, service standards and public registers.
At the regional level, he is calling for reforms at Metro Vancouver, including an independent inquiry into the North Shore wastewater treatment plant project.
“West Vancouver deserves change at Municipal Hall, not more of the same,” LaPointe said. “These commitments reflect their priorities, and I intend to be held to every one of them.”
More campaign proposals to come
The second part of LaPointe’s plan, covering neighbourhoods and local businesses, is expected on Tuesday, September 15. A third phase outlining a broader vision for the District is scheduled for Thursday, September 17.
“People told me what mattered to them, and I listened,” LaPointe said. “My plan is their plan, and it’s what I’ll deliver.”
