The North Shore Mountain Bike Association is calling on District of North Vancouver residents to make trails an election issue ahead of the October 17 vote for mayor and council. The association says it will send questions to all candidates and publish their answers on its website.
“Local government has a significant impact on how mountain bike trails are managed and supported on the north shore,” the association says in a post on its website. The post urges district residents to learn about the candidates and make time to vote.
Voters get two chances to question candidates directly at all candidates’ meetings on October 6 and 8, both starting at 7 p.m. The association calls the meetings a good opportunity to ask how candidates plan to support mountain bike trails on the North Shore.
The association is a volunteer-driven charity that has cared for North Shore trails since 2001, working in partnership with the district and other land managers across more than 70 kilometres of trail. It ran a similar candidate questionnaire during the 2022 district election.
The association has argued for ongoing sustainable funding from the district to keep the trail network in good shape.
