North Vancouver guardian ticketed following E‑Scooter crash involving 12‑Year‑old

According to the news release, on June 10, 2026, at approximately 5:00 p.m., North Vancouver RCMP responded to reports of a collision in the 3100 block of Colwood Drive. Frontline officers and paramedics attended the scene, where a 12-year-old riding an e-scooter had allegedly struck a black VW Jetta. The child was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Following the incident, officers followed up with the child’s guardian and issued several violation tickets, including one to the guardian for allowing a person under 16 years of age to operate an electric kick scooter.

“We are extremely thankful that no one was seriously hurt during this incident,” said Cpl. Mansoor Sahak, media relations officer for North Vancouver RCMP.

According to the news release, Sahak noted that police, first responders, and medical professionals have been raising concerns about the dangers of e-scooters and have conducted an extensive educational campaign targeting parents and students about the rules and regulations around their use. “While police continue to educate, enforcement actions have increased and we are holding parents accountable,” he said.

Under provincial regulations, riders must be at least 16 years old to operate an electric kick scooter, and parents and guardians are prohibited from allowing children under that age to ride one. According to the news release, other rules include a maximum speed capability of 25 km/h, a mandatory approved safety helmet, and a requirement that front and rear lights be turned on between sunset and sunrise.

Riders are also prohibited from using sidewalks or crosswalks unless permitted by signage, and must sound a bell or horn when passing pedestrians and other road users.
