Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Metro Vancouver and Howe Sound, with 50 to 70 millimetres of rain expected from Monday evening through Tuesday afternoon.
The warning covers Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, the North Shore, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge and Howe Sound.
A frontal system moving toward the Lower Mainland is expected to bring heavy rain beginning Monday evening, along with strong, gusty southeasterly winds overnight and Tuesday morning.
The rain is forecast to ease Tuesday afternoon, Environment Canada said.
Water may pool on roads and in low-lying areas, potentially disrupting the Tuesday morning commute. Environment Canada advises drivers to allow extra travel time, avoid flooded roads and watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
