A West Vancouver man’s unconventional attempt to manage the school drop-off rush ended with his golf cart being towed and three violation tickets being issued.
In a social media post, the West Vancouver Police Department said officers stopped the man after he drove the golf cart on a public road with a passenger.
Police said they issued the driver three tickets for operating the vehicle without insurance and for failing to have seatbelts for himself and his passenger. The department did not disclose where the incident occurred or which school was involved.
Golf carts lack several safety features required for public roads, including seatbelts, turn signals, brake lights, and mirrors, according to West Vancouver police. They are also not designed to travel alongside regular traffic, even on quieter streets or within school zones.
In its social media post, the department reminded residents that vehicles operated on public roads in B.C. must be insured and driven by a licensed driver.
“Please—save the cart for the golf course and prioritize student safety on busy school drop-offs,” West Vancouver police said.
