A driver travelling at 145 km/h in a 70 km/h zone off the Second Narrows Bridge received a $483 ticket and had their vehicle impounded for seven days, according to North Vancouver RCMP.

Police said an officer stopped the westbound driver this past weekend after clocking the vehicle at 75 km/h over the posted speed limit.

In a social media post, RCMP warned that excessive speed puts both drivers and other road users at risk. “Getting where you’re going a little faster isn’t worth the risk,” police said.

Meanwhile, the West Vancouver Police Department says it has increased proactive patrols in areas subject to complaints of stunt driving and street racing.

Last week, a WVPD officer observed a vehicle performing burnouts and donuts on Cypress Bowl Road, reckless driving behaviour known to damage road surfaces and put other road users at risk. The driver was issued a ticket under the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act, and the vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days at the owner’s expense.
